Senator, Pakistan Parliament; Former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety (Federal Minister)

Sania Nishtar is a member of Pakistan’s Senate and former special assistant to the prime minister for poverty alleviation and social safety (a federal minister rank), where she founded and implemented Ehsaas, the largest social protection program in the country’s history. During that time she also chaired the Benazir Income Support Program. Nishtar previously chaired WHO’s High-Level Commission on Noncommunicable Diseases, WEF’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Healthcare, US National Academy of Sciences Global Study on the Quality of Healthcare in LMICs, UN International Institute for Global Health’s Advisory Committee, UN Secretary General’s Independent Accountability Panel for Women’s and Children’s Health, and WHO’s Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity. Nishtar was listed among BBC’s 100 most influential women globally in 2020, among many other awards.
